Graham County Hospital

Graham County Health Care

The Graham County Hospital was established in 1953 in Hill City as a 16 bed facility. Today it is a licensed 26 bed institution with a resident medical staff of three physicians and a dental surgeon.  In addition, 18 specialists visit the hospital regularly. The county and the hospital is supported by a 911 emergency call service, a 24 hour ambulance service plus land and air emergency evacuation to secondary and tertiary hospitals.

Since it opened, The hospital has grown steadily with two additional wings, improved dietary, storage and laundry facilities. The staff has grown to 100. It has a $5 Million annual budget is the largest employer in Graham County.

In 1997, a $2 Million Outpatient and Emergency Room building program was completed. This added 16,000 square feet of handicapped accessible space. This latest addition  improved the Emergency Room services and provided more efficient,  convenient outpatient care. Telemedicine diagnostic and conferencing was included to give physicians quick access to specialists world wide. Today the hospital is one of the most modern, well equipped primary care facilities in Northwest Kansas.

Home Care is where the HEART is!
When Home Health Care is Necessary Often times as a patient, you need nursing and health services, but don't need to be in the hospital. Home Health care offers the alternative of skilled nursing in your own environment and at much less cost. Your physician and the Home Health professionals work together to develop a care program to meet your needs. The program strives to restore and maintain your health and help you to become independent again. If necessary, we help and train you to live with effects of illness or disability.
Why Home Health? People are more comfortable at home. Home Health usually costs less than hospital or long term care. It's more convenient. There are no transportation problems and less disruption of schedules. And most importantly.. people recover more quickly at home.
Who Qualifies? To be admitted to home health, a patient must require medical service and the supervision of a qualified physician. A hospital stay is not required to be eligible for home health services.
What can HOME HEALTH do for me? Our NURSING STAFF can assess your physical and mental condition while educating you and your family about the disease process. We assist with your medications and teach you how to best care for yourself. we are in direct communications with your doctor apprising him/her of your needs and/or progress. Hospice of Graham County Hospital
"There comes a time when you can no longer cure, but there never comes a time when you can no longer care."
HOSPICE  cares for more than just the patient. Many people are frightened at the thought of the responsibility of caring for someone that won't heal. The anxiety of wondering when death will come is ever present.
HOSPICE  teaches guides, supports and nurtures the family so the care and responsibility won't be so overwhelming and frightening. The fear associated with death and dying is neutralized.
HOSPICE services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A hospice nurse is always on call to assist you day and night. Working on a team concept of doctors, nurses, clergy, social workers and volunteers we will help you meet any need that might arise for you and the family.

  • Hospice does not support measures to prolong life
Hospices of Graham County Hospital began in 1994 as a volunteer organization. Hospice is primarily funded through donations, memorials, insurance and Medicare reimbursements.

Often people forget that death and dying is a natural part of life. Because of this belief, people are unprepared to deal with death. Hospice of Graham County Hospital is the guiding hand to help ease those faced with death, life's ultimate challenge. While it can't take the experience away, Hospice can make it peaceful, dignified and understandable.
