Penokee

This is a sleepy laid back community of extremely neighborly folks only 5 minutes drive from the county seat.

Penokee was once a booming community housing many businesses including "Collins Lumber Yard" and "Collins Chevrolet", both said to be the largest in the county during their heyday of the 1920s and 1930s!!

A very large and well stocked hardware store was operated by Cliff Egee, an accomplished tin smith, capable of making even precision funnels and cups.

A 1926 bride remembers purchasing a brand new 1930 Chevrolet automobile "with everything" for $750.00.

Present day Penokee is like a rose among the thorns where a person can still live individual life styles without harassment.
